The idea for Hame-ish shows was conceived in 2017 when Mairi-Claire and Ed were chatting about a recent lovely experience Mairi-Claire had had during a writing retreat. During the evenings at this retreat she had gathered with fellow attendees to share songs and poems.
These reminded Mairi-Claire of Hogmanay gatherings when she was a child where aunts and uncles would ‘do a turn’.
Taking inspiration from these experiences Mairi-Claire and Ed created the format for Hame-ish shows with the tag-line ‘A night out that feels like a night in’.
Since 2018 they have facilitated multiple Hame-ish shows showcasing the talent of Scotland-based poets and musicians.
In 2023 they incorporated Hame-ish Arts as a Community Interest Company (CIC) to continue to run Hame-ish events and provide further opportunities for artists to showcase, and audiences to enjoy, new creative work produced in Scotland.
